Selected as one of just 39 DSPs nationwide, Misty joined peers from across the United States in a first-of-its-kind program focused on leadership development, storytelling, and policy advocacy. Over the course of eight months, participants engaged in collaborative learning, shared experiences from the field, and built a strong network of professionals committed to advancing the direct support workforce.

As part of the program, ambassadors traveled to Washington, D.C. for a national “Hill Day,” where they met with legislators and policymakers to discuss critical issues impacting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including workforce challenges, funding needs, and the importance of expanding awareness and access to services.

The program concluded with a graduation in Boston, where ambassadors participated in in-depth training sessions led by leaders in the field. These sessions focused on equipping DSPs with the tools and confidence to continue advocating within their communities and organizations.

“This experience has been incredibly meaningful,” Misty shared. “Being able to connect with other DSPs across the country, share our stories, and advocate for the individuals we support has been truly powerful. I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to bring what I’ve learned back to Trivium.”
